A sub-project under the Expanded Small Farms and Marketing Project, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, FAME is a partnership between APFTI and the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines.
Why?Farmers in the Philippines face a similar problem to the small producers APFTI assists. That is, they have difficulty accessing market. How?The FAME project has two main objectives: 1) Farmers cluster together and work with modern and appropriate markets 2) Farmers actively participate in collective marketing The objectives are met through a variety of activities that include: Farmers take clustering approach to production and marketing | Farmers/cluster leaders learn the principles, methodologies and tools of cluster marketing. | | Farmers add value to their crops, accessing greater markets | Farmers gain key market information and access to rice, coffee and cacao buyers, distributors, processors and retail chains. Rice and coffee farmers have access to common milling and roasting facilities. | | Farmers are engaged in Fair Trade marketing | Rice, coffee and cacao farmers have access to Fair Trade certification and labelling. |
Who?The project will work with 12,120 farmers across 153 barangays in 23 municipalities in Mindanao. APFTI will be implementing the FAME project in close coordination with four (4) local implementing partners, namely: Kasilak Development Foundation Inc; Kadtuntaya Foundation, Inc; Kaanib Foundation, Inc; and the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Malaybalay. Where?The FAME project covers North Cotabato, Maguindanao and Bukidnon.
